Sun Tech Days and OpenSolaris

Dear all

I attended Sun Tech days on 21st - 23 Feb and gosh the presentations were so very good.

In particular, I got a chance to chat with the sun compiler team and also got a OpenSolaris CD. I am planning to install it on a machine and compile calitko with the latest sun C++ compiler. They accepted my feedback about the g++ -Wall option and  things like -Wold-style-cast, -Woverloaded-virtual and -Weffc++ that dear g++ gives us ;-). I won a stylish Sun designed mouse for asking very good questions, too ;-)
They have come up with an -autopar option which tries to parallalize your C/C++ code. And also DRDT which tries to figure out data races in code.
Once I get the machine I will compile calitko and update you all. Btw, the sun compilers are available on Linux too so I will try to download and give it a run….

Hey Atul! That all sounds pretty cool! I'm sure you had a great time at the conference. I'd also be interested to hear your feedback about these gcc options... Is (more...)
