You will wonder what is Calitko all about. Poetically said, it is the child of the love between P2P and software technologies. Calitko is not only about implementing existing P2P protocols. These are just the first few steps the baby project makes in order to learn how to walk. Once it stands stable on its feet, Calitko’s ultimate aim will be to improve the existing and to create the next generation of P2P technology!

Calitko cares a lot about P2P, but it cares equally much about how P2P gets implemented in beautiful software. Yes, we at Calitko want not just to write code, but elegant code that solves the difficult problems provided by P2P. We even want to go a step further by trying to create an extensible P2P platform. Namely, we want to define abstract resources (files, processors, persons) and their associated services (transfers, computations, messaging), which can be uniformly searched for and acquired via different P2P networks.

Calitko is quite logically an open source project licensed under the GPL. The development of Calitko is very much influenced by the open source development philosophy: openness, incremental development, bottom-up design, short release cycles. Our motivations - love for technology, passion for creation, constant desire to learn more and the infinite striving for self-development - are the core stimulus for open source enthusiasts.
